What is Ceasar?

Ceasar is a research tool for lawyers working with Swedish law. You ask your question in ordinary language and get an answer built on Swedish statutes and case law. Every provision and precedent in the answer can be clicked and read in its original wording. Ceasar is developed by LagKlar.

Does Ceasar cover law outside Sweden?

No. Ceasar works with Swedish law only. The knowledge base holds Swedish statutes and Swedish case law, and the sources open in their original Swedish wording as published by the Riksdag. You can write to Ceasar in English and get the analysis in English, but the law being analysed is Swedish, and the quoted statutory text is never translated, because a translation would no longer be the source.

Who is Ceasar built for?

Lawyers, paralegals, law firms and in house legal departments. Ceasar is made for the work that comes before the assessment itself, which is finding the right provisions, surfacing relevant case law and getting a legal analysis in order ahead of a matter. It assumes that you can evaluate the law yourself. Ceasar is not aimed at consumers.

What separates Ceasar from ChatGPT and other general AI models?

Ceasar answers from a knowledge base of Swedish statutes and case law that has been entered and checked document by document, instead of formulating the answer out of the memory of the model. Every source reference can be clicked and read in its original text. The knowledge base is reconciled daily against the open data of the Riksdag, so that amendments and new wordings are picked up. A general language model can reproduce a provision that has been amended, repealed or never existed, with nothing in the answer revealing it.

Does Ceasar replace a lawyer?

No. Ceasar produces material and structure. The legal assessment and the responsibility stay with you. Ceasar does not provide legal advice and does not act as counsel.

Where do the answers come from?

Accepted Answer

From a knowledge base of Swedish statutes and precedents that have been entered and checked document by document. Coverage is widest in migration law, social law, employment law, family law, contract law, criminal law, company law and administrative law. Ceasar shows which sources an answer rests on, so that you can see what the assessment is built on.

Can I check that a provision really says what the answer claims?

Yes, and you are meant to. Click a reference to a provision in the answer and the statutory text opens as Ceasar retrieved it, together with a link to the primary source at the Riksdag. The same applies to the documents from the knowledge base. You can read exactly the passage the answer is built on.

What happens when a statute is amended?

The knowledge base is monitored daily against the open data of the Riksdag. If a statute held in the base is amended, an alert goes off so that the text can be updated before it quietly becomes obsolete. Provisions that enter into force later are kept apart from the wording in force until the day arrives.

Can Ceasar be wrong?

Yes. Ceasar is built on language models, and a language model can formulate something that sounds reasonable but is wrong on the substance. That is why the sources are clickable. The checking is built into the way of working rather than replaced by a promise that it never happens. Always check a decisive provision or precedent against the primary source before you use it in a matter.

Can I upload a document and ask questions about it?

Yes. Ceasar accepts PDF, JPEG, PNG and WebP. You can ask questions about the content or ask for a legal review of it.

Can I share an answer with a colleague or a client?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can create a link that shows the conversation exactly as you see it, with the sources clickable. The recipient needs no account and can only read, not write. You can switch the link off whenever you want.

Can I get an answer out into Word or PDF?

Accepted Answer

Yes. An answer can be copied straight into Word or Google Docs with the formatting intact, and the whole conversation can be exported as a PDF or an image.

How is client data protected?

Accepted Answer

All traffic runs over HTTPS and TLS, and uploaded files are stored encrypted. Processing follows the GDPR. The privacy policy sets out which subprocessors are used and on what legal basis. Data can be requested deleted.

Are our documents used to train AI models?

Accepted Answer

No. Ceasar runs on the Claude models from Anthropic through their API, and Anthropic does not train its models on data sent that way.

Can we sign a data processing agreement?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A data processing agreement is published on the website and is signed when you start using Ceasar. The agreement exists in Swedish, and the Swedish text is the one that governs.

What does Ceasar cost?

Ceasar is in a test phase and is not yet sold from a public price list. Terms and price are settled in dialogue with each firm and are taken up at the demo.
